Bus and truck drivers are paid professionals and often have to share the road with vulnerable road users, like motorcyclists, bike riders and mobility scooters. We help them see the road from the others point of you.
Share The Road
In 2012 we designed a Share The Road Workshop for heavy vehicle drivers. The workshop is run on bikes, using roads the drivers are familiar with and is facilitated in a way that allows the drivers to see the value in sharing with vulnerable users.
We were honoured when the Workshop recently became a key action in a Worksafe Enforceable Undertaking against an operator found liable in the tragic death of a rider. Just over 1100 of the operator’s drivers in 32 depots around the country took part.
The workshop takes 2.5 hours and is led by a facilitator and local cycle skills instructor and can accommodate up to 14 drivers at a time, including those who cannot balance on a bike.
We bring along a fleet of bikes and helmets and work through 3 key insights. These need to be understood together to operate a heavy vehicle safely when their are vulnerable road users nearby.
